Main Street Players present Barefoot in the Park

Main Street Players offers up a gem of a comedy for its last show of the 23-24 season-Barefoot in the Park by Pulitzer Prize-winning American playwright Neil Simon. It traces Paul and Corie Bratter’s difficult first week of marriage in their new apartment. Paul is a dour, strait-laced lawyer, while Corie is a free-spirited optimist with a zest for experiences.  The play opened on Broadway in 1963 and was Neil Simon's longest-running hit, and the tenth-longest running non-musical play in Broadway history (1,530 performances). A hilarious parallel plot involves Corie setting up her staid mother, Ethel, with the Bratters’ adventurous neighbor, Victor Velasco. The play was nominated for four 1964 Tony Awards with Mike Nichols winning for Best Direction of a play.

The cast includes Elise Wright (Corie), Will Pitts (Paul), Karen Beyer (Mrs. Banks), Brad Jester (Victor Velasco); Isaac Duncan (Telephone Repair Man), and Keith Potter (Delivery Man). BJ Hughes both directs and designs the show. Costumes by Norma Richardson and lighting by Nate Barnes. Keith Potter doubles as stage manager and Karen Stanford serves as production assistant.

Do not miss this comic delight! Barefoot in the Park runs at Main Street Players from Wednesday, June 12 through Sunday, June 23, 2024. Wednesday-Saturday performances are at 7:30 PM, with Sunday matinee performances at 3:00 PM. To purchase tickets, contact the Main Street Players box office at 770-229-9916 or go online by visiting mainstreetplayers.org and select “ticket purchase and information.” Tickets are $30 for adults, $25 for seniors, and $15 for students, with special discounts available for groups of 10 or more.  This play replaces the previously announced Ripcord, so season ticket holders may use those tickets on their designated performance day.
