Griffin-Spalding Community Celebrates Teachers With A Street Party And Concert for Teacher Takeover In Downtown

Calling all teachers, educators and professors… are you ready to PARTY?!?! The Downtown Council and Griffin Main Street Program would like to celebrate all that you do for students and families in the community by throwing a huge party on August 10 in your honor downtown! “Second Saturday Teacher Takeover" will kick off at 5pm with a street party sponsored by City Church on Solomon Street and end with a concert in the Park at Sixth sponsored by Essentials East Salon and Spa.
Sip N Shop, a downtown wine tasting room, with Georgia-made wines to taste; a live DJ will be pumping some tunes on Solomon Street; and participating retailers and artisan vendors will be offering discounts, specials and giveaways - you don’t want to miss it. City Church, a church who is "for the city and for all teachers," will be presenting the first 200 teachers with a swag bag filled with samples, coupons and amazing items (bring your teacher ID)!
The “Teacher’s Lounge,” sponsored by Essentials East Salon and Spa, will be open from 5-10pm in the Park at Sixth, where you can relax with corn hole, Giant Jenga, free popcorn, hair and skin care samples, and a chance to win salon and spa gift baskets. (Unlike in school, everyone is welcome in the “teacher’s lounge”).
The party will end with a funky, rocking’ concert by Lady Creech and the MainStreet Band in the Park at Sixth from 8-10pm.
Everyone is welcome to celebrate the survival of the first week of school by strolling the downtown streets with a Go Cup (a legal way to enjoy an alcoholic beverage as you walk around downtown, just ask for one at your favorite downtown restaurant) while you peruse the artists and artisans who will be displaying and selling their art and crafts on Hill and Solomon.
“Second Saturdays” in Downtown Griffin is a free, family-friendly event and our entire community is invited to explore all that Downtown Griffin has to offer. Each month will bring a truly unique experience and different theme to the downtown area, including new artists, free entertainment, special events, new offers, deals, and promotions at varying restaurants and retailers across downtown. We welcome you to SHOP, DINE, and EXPLORE the Downtown Griffin area starting with every second Saturday of the month!
If you are interested to learn more about this event, please check out the “Second Saturday - Teacher Takeover” Event Page discoverable under Griffin Downtown Council, Downtown Griffin, or City of Griffin Facebook pages.
