The construction of a 300,000 square foot plant by Caterpillar, Inc. and its $50 million investment is another sign of Griffin and Spalding County’s attractiveness. The Caterpillar generator facility is located in the Green Valley Industrial Park off Georgia Highway 16 and will eventually employ over 300 workers.

“The reasons to locate here were plentiful”, said Tom Daugherty, Caterpillar representative. Griffin and Spalding County’s proximity to Hartsfield International Airport, the availability of a large labor pool, the availability of training facilities such as Southern Crescent Technical College, and the willingness of local authorities to work with Caterpillar were among the reasons.

While location and services are crucial components that contribute to a choice between otherwise comparable settings, in the final analysis businesses and industries depend upon people. A combination of both work force and local leadership has made the difference in attracting new economic growth to Griffin and Spalding County.
