FAMILY ACTIVITIES ARE ABUNDANT IN
GRIFFIN AND SPALDING COUNTY

Griffin has several popular recreational parks such as Airport Road Park and the Wyomia Tyus Olympic Park.  The Airport Road Park features a model half-mile walking trail constructed of approximately 71,000 recycled tires.   The park also provides a playground and commons area for people to enjoy nature at its best.  The Wyomia Thus Olympic Park is named for a local Olympic Gold Medallist in track.  The park features wooded landscaping with soccer and baseball fields, walking trails, and a multipurpose building.

Three facilities have regulation indoor basketball courts, and there are adult softball fields, weight rooms, playground equipment, restrooms and concession stands at most of the recreational areas.  AMBUCS Park is home to Griffin Youth Baseball, the site of regular season play and year-end tournament play.  Volunteer Park is a complex of baseball, softball and soccer fields.

Griffin’s City Park, located within a few blocks of the downtown shopping/business area, is a popular place to hold picnics, attend ball games, meet for a quick outdoor lunch or take a pleasant stroll any time of day on the tree-lined walking trail which winds throughout the park.  City Park has an excellent
18-hole golf course for those who enjoy a challenging course, and for those who just like to putt around, there is the AMBUCS Miniature 18-hole course.  During the summer months, the swimming pool is a
favorite place to be, and there are always activities that the ball fields, gymnasium, street hockey court, tennis courts and playground areas for the children.

A hallmark of Griffin and Spalding County is its access to outdoor recreation areas.  The Flint River is great for fishing and boating along the western boarder of the county, and the City Reservoir is where local fishermen make their big catches.

Within a short driving distance of Griffin are several natural outdoor settings with an array of amenities.  Callaway Gardens, a 14,000-acre resort, offers beautiful grounds.  In addition, more than 30 miles of hiking and riding trails are features of Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park.  In addition, Indian Springs State Park, High Falls State Park, and Jackson Lake, with opportunities for fishing, camping, swimming and boating.

Leaders here have made it a priority to make sure that recreational opportunities grow with the community.  Make the most of it; experience Griffin-Spalding’s great and growing recreation.
