 BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY

GROWING IN SIZE AND STRENGTH

Successful companies are recognized for their growth and prosperity.  When a company

decides to locate a new facility or consider expansion, prospering and growing communities are where these companies look.  Griffin and Spalding County is one of these communities and it shows by a representation of more than 65 existing manufacturers.

The construction of a 300,000 square foot plant by Caterpillar, Inc. and its $50 million investment is another sign of Griffin and Spalding County’s attractiveness.  The Caterpillar generator facility is located in the Green Valley Industrial Park off Georgia Highway 16 and will eventually employ over 300 workers.

“The reasons to locate here were plentiful”, said Tom Daugherty, Caterpillar representative.  Griffin and Spalding County’s proximity to Hartsfield International Airport, the availability of a large labor pool, the availability of training facilities such as Southern Crescent Technical College, and the willingness of local authorities to work with Caterpillar were among the reasons.

While location and services are crucial components that contribute to a choice between otherwise comparable settings, in the final analysis businesses and industries depend upon people.  A combination of both work force and local leadership has made the difference in attracting new economic growth to Griffin and Spalding County.

The thriving partnership between Southern Crescent Technical College and area businesses and industries is based on a commitment to meeting every need.  In addition to larger manufacturing facilities, such as Bandag and Caterpillar.  Southern Crescent offers a wide variety of specialized continuing education classes and contract training courses for smaller companies.    Also, the courses have brought together students from such diverse groups as area high schools and individuals from the banking and financial industries.  Many businesses and industries look to Southern Crescent as their primary training provider.

For a place with economic stability, businesses and industries need look no further than Griffin and Spalding County, both “Great and Growing”.
