How important is your role as a parent? For most parents, everything you do will affect your child’s future. Supporting your child’s education may well be the most important role. The Griffin-Spalding County School System stands for “Positive Leadership and Accountability for Children First – Always”.
These words represent the skill and effort that are put to task each school day to expand your child’s knowledge and commitment to life-long learning.

Understanding the concept that education is a lifelong process, the Griffin-Spalding County School System has continued to thrive and improve. Whether it’s targeting certain curriculum areas for instructional improvement or constructing new educational facilities, the Griffin-Spalding County School System is committed to instilling trust in public education.

Business also plays a vital role in the educational success of our children. The Partners-In-Education Program matches businesses with schools, using the interests, resources, determined needs, personnel and locations of each. Together, they work to achieve mutual goals that will benefit the students.

The goal of the K-5 curriculum is to enable students to become independent learners, value education and gain confidence in their abilities, communicate effectively, grow into self-reliant, productive and creative citizens, and respect diverse cultures. Grades 6-8 curriculum goals are to provide instruction that will improve academic skills, integrate technology throughout all instructional programs as tools for learning, promote self-discipline and good citizenship, and increase awareness of career options. High school prepares grades 9-12 to meet the state requirements for either (or both) a College Preparatory and Technical/Career Preparatory seal on their high school diploma.

Special offerings at this level allow students to participate in various non-traditional course work. Virtual High School is a program in which students take courses, such as astronomy online in a seminar format. Students may also take joint enrollment courses available from Gordon College, Clayton College and State University, and Griffin Technical College. These courses allow students to earn post-secondary credit. Everything about the Griffin-Spalding School System is directed at placing “Children First-Always”.

Four additional schools located in the Griffin-Spalding area provide alternative educational experiences. Grace Academy offers instruction for students grades 9 through 12; Harvest Christian Academy, on Highway 19/41 South, teaches students from the age of 6 weeks through 9th grade; Griffin Christian Academy on West McIntosh Road provides Kindergarten through eighth grade education; Griffin Christian High School offers instruction for students grades 9 through 12; and St. George’s Episcopal School works with first through sixth grades on Birch Street in Milner.

Similarly, two institutions of higher learning offers courses locally; the emphasis is on choice of program with flexible hours, Gordon College, a two-year institution in the University System of Georgia specializing in various Associate degrees, provides night courses in Griffin. Griffin Technical College makes both academic and technical training easily available.

Griffin-Spalding high schools and Griffin Technical College work closely to involve qualified students in Tech Prep, a four-year sequence of study involving two years of carefully-selected senior high courses and two years of post-secondary occupational education. Tech Prep is offered in six highly specialized areas: data processing, health occupations, construction, health occupations, construction, business, drafting and electronics.

Children are very important! They are our lifeblood that will sustain our existence. And education is the most vital source to the knowledge that they and we all need. In Griffin-Spalding children are first, but education is always the foundation of our success.
